At Higher Green Farm we regularly run Children’s Art and Craft Courses during the school Holidays. We also occasionally run Adults courses in Art, Pottery, Metal Sculpture, Paper Sculpture, Stone Carving, Textile, Creative Writing, Illustration and Digital Photography.

Monday 23rd October –
Merry Go Round with Des Alner
An exciting day rotating through a number of art and craft activities: Painting, Pottery, Batik, Sculpture, Print Making Collage, etc. We encourage children to develop ideas into their own creative statements using a wide range of techniques and materials. For children who participate a number of times we will endeavor to create progression in various activities. Age 5+  £20

 
Monday 23rd October – Action Figures with Peter Rush
Fantastic sculptures of wizards (H. Potter?), sports figures or movement sculptures etc can be achieved with his guidance and expertise. Develop your sculpture techniques using Peter’s famous technique of building characters from a wire frame and layering with paper mache. Also working with heated plastics for detail and unusual features. Age 8+  £25
 

Tuesday 24th October – Autumn Colours with Esme Alner and Martha Jarvis
We will look closely at colour and the inspirational work of artist Andy Goldsworthy by exploring our outside landscape and observing the wide range of trees, the shapes and colours of their leaves and naturally formed objects.  We will use our own leaf collections as inspiration and using a wide range of materials and techniques will produce some very colourful, exciting work to take home. (`Wellies & W.proofs`). Age 5+  £25
 

Tuesday 24th October – Clay Day with Des Alner
An opportunity to produce a major piece of work in clay.  We will use various handbuilding techniques including coil and slab construction.  Ideas and inspiration will develop through looking at artists and potters work.  Glazing will take place on another arranged occasion perhaps on a weekend. Age 8+  £30
 

Wednesday 25th October – Life Drawing with Des Alner and Martha Jarvis
Learn and develop skills in drawing particularly of the human form.  We will endeavor to meet each individuals needs as the course is intended for skills development.  We will use some of the elements of art, line, tone, form, colour etc.  also Body Proportions; one and two point perspective; (three point for past students).  This can be a continuation of development from previous courses including help with school projects. Age 11+  £25
 

Wednesday 25th October – Wire Sculpture with Pauline Dawkins
An opportunity to make a wire sculpture for the garden or home.  Working with chicken wire and associated tools to create wonderful figures, particularly animals and birds, capturing movement and individual quirks of nature.
Age 8+  £25
 

Thursday 26th October – Merry Go Round with Rachael Brewer, Julie Turner and Martha Jarvis
An exciting day rotating through a number of art and craft activities: Painting, Pottery, Batik, Sculpture, Print Making Collage, etc. We encourage children to develop ideas into their own creative statements using a wide range of techniques and materials. For children who participate a number of times we will endeavor to create progression in various activities. Age 5+  £20
 

Thursday 26th October – Stone Carving with Des Alner
This is an exciting opportunity to produce a significant piece of work for the garden or home. Participants can choose a piece of stone to carve.  Skills and techniques will be taught including working safely in a workshop environment. Old clothes and stout footwear to be worn. Age 10+  £25
 

Further Course Details

All courses are run from 10am to 3.30pm unless other stated.  For full day courses please bring a packed lunch, all other refreshments will be provided. Suitable footwear must be worn (No flip flops).

Payment is to be made on the morning of arrival by cash or cheque only, we do not have payment card facilities. All courses are inclusive of materials and equipment.
